Maybe my IP6600 gem still needs some polishing

stratman: Yeah, I think they look very similar to the wiper blades, yes. I guess I cleaned the wiper blades. I believe I've now tried most of the recommendations, except for replacing the mentioned ink cartridges and taking apart the printer to do work on it. I didn't buy new cartridges...

Maybe my IP6600 gem still needs some polishing

WAIT a minute. If the print head is defective, why did the yellow band on the nozzle tests come out fine, but the yellow patches in Excel come out as green? If the print head or control board are bad, all (similar) yellow should come out bad, right? Here's another purge page. Scanned at 400dpi...

Maybe my IP6600 gem still needs some polishing

Wow, and I was hoping this project would be fun. Heh. Trying to decide what to do next. I'm kind of swamped for a while, I don't know if it would be wise for me to start disassembling that thing. Thanks for all this help so far, though. You folks are just amazing.

AFAICT, the rims are just liquid. Is there any way to test the logic board through diagnostic routines, or does one have to open up the printer and replace it or ??

Okay, here's a photo of the print head openings on the print head. Can you tell anything from this?

Maybe my IP6600 gem still needs some polishing

Stratman: I don't remember your asking ink tank order. But anyways, the ink tanks are definitely installed in the correct slots. Why do they call it "order" if they mean which slot it's in? Until you all straightened me out, I thought that meant you had to install them in a certain sequence...

Maybe my IP6600 gem still needs some polishing

The cross-contamination you folks are talking about-Can it end up affecting the contents inside the cartridges, or does it only result occur at the print head and stay there/on the paper? I'm asking just because, as I reported earlier, my yellow tank contents are very dark, and almost look like...

Mikling: Did you mean print head cleaning issued as a command through the driver, or actually physically removing the printhead and washing it out?

Maybe my IP6600 gem still needs some polishing

Okay, so...just to be clear, it would not be worth buying another yellow cartridge to try?

Maybe my IP6600 gem still needs some polishing

Mikling: I printed another "yellow" purge page and got results similar to the last print I posted-green eventually moving towards lighter green/yellow-ish with dark horizontal lines. What causes the dark horizontal lines? Hat: But the black cartridge is brand new. Just bought it two weeks ago.

Maybe my IP6600 gem still needs some polishing

So, what do my latest test prints suggest? Are the black lines indicative of anything particular? Can I resolve the problem somehow?

Maybe my IP6600 gem still needs some polishing

Mikling: When you said "This is one mode of older printhead failure", does that type of failure come from usage/wear alone? Or can it come from age. Cause we seem to believe this printer has seen very little use. TPAGE=160 or so when I got it, assuming the numbers can be believed.

Maybe my IP6600 gem still needs some polishing

Okay, I did a purge page with yellow and magenta. I didn't know how to do PM, so I just made the Magenta really light. Is that alright? Scanned at 400 dpi. The other colour/banding/whatever in the yellow is obvious. I noticed it gets lighter near the bottom (towards the end of printing?). Does...

Peter: EDIT: Dang! Now this stupid thing will not feed 4x6" photo paper from the cassette. It keeps complaining there is no paper in the tray. I have about 20 sheets of Canon glossy photo paper in there. Suggestions? I've set it to 4x6" photo paper in the driver, and tried both "cassette"a and...

Of which? Nozzle? Spreadsheet? I'm using up a fair bit of ink here. Yellow is now @ about 45% full.

Maybe my IP6600 gem still needs some polishing

Ok, well on the nozzle test, yellow is coming out as yellow, AFAICT. But on the spreasheet, yellow is still coming out green with banding/darker green stripes through it. What's my next step?

Maybe my IP6600 gem still needs some polishing

Wait...I'm confused. I cleaned the white foam thing. That is the waste ink pads? Where are the purge pads on an IP6600? Do I still need to clean them?

Maybe my IP6600 gem still needs some polishing

Okay, I did as you said and removed the cartridges, then the print head. I unplugged the printer and moved carriage to left. I soaked the only waste reservoir pad I could find a few times with Windex. This worked surprisingly well, I think. The pad is now pretty much bright white. I also wiped...

PeterBJ: The printer is the last one in that thread. Notable because the first one had everything reset to zero. This printer did NOT. And I met the people who sold it to me, and my MA in psych tells me they're not the deceptive kind, so I tend to believe most of what they said, which is the...
