I've been using the German method with hole at the bottom.I see no reason whatsoever to put it higher.I have never had a leak from this hole.As stated, the geometry is a problem with a higher hole and makes getting the tip of the needle into the reservoir much more difficult.
I think I would...
I agree on the aftermarket cartridges for refills. It's just not worth it for me.The OEM cartridges are so consistently good! The foam and design is superior to any aftermarket I have tried.

I know that this is the way it's supposed to be.I thought my description explained this to the OP.There should be no leakage(or,at most a drop or 2 if you overfill) using the German method. That's one reason it's the best refill method for my use......clean,effective,and fast.
I thought we were discussing the German method.I "vented" the reservoir to make purging easy. Then sealed the hole to use the German method.....with no drips, just as it should be.
Mine never have dripped unless I squeeze the sides (using German method on OEM cartridges).I've refilled the current set of cartridges 12-15 times with Hobbicolors ink and have had no clogging at all(that's without a 2nd purge).
I don't know if this is OK to post, but here goes.I have need for (2) yellow empty CLI8 cartridges.I have an extra C,M,and PGIBK that I can trade for them(USA only). They are purged and have had the "ball" removed to purge through the reservoir.
Thanks! Diane
IIRC,antifreeze for RVs is propylene glycol and should be available at stores like walmart,RV dealerships and auto supply houses. The kind I got is pink in color and inexpensive.
I use the German method for refilling, but removed the plastic ball from the reservoir to make purges a lot more...
The German method, when properly done,is the easiest for me.I started out doing this by removing the plastic ball and using screws to seal the hole. Then I got some long needles and tried the German method......it is so easy and effective!NO RESEALING!!!See the link(also using Hobbicolors ink as...
I have done it with the "finger on the outlet" before. There are a couple of advantages to having a way to store FULL cartridges:
(1)It's nice to have a set ready for quick exchange, then you can refill at your leisure.
(2)Some think the printhead may dry out if left sitting while doing refills as...
Mapsy has the blue resetter on Ebay for $22.55 shipped.I am still using an MP780(no chips),but will eventually go to an ip4200 when it finally dies(uses CLI8 chipped cartridges)......so I'll need a resetter then.
Do you guys feel resetters will be around at these prices for a long while..or...
