Has anyone replaced just the PK/MK damper valve? This thing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/263749332301?ul_noapp=true
The Epson Service Manual shows some shuttle valve pin that pushes back and forth against on the sides of it to switch the inks. Since it is common to both inks, it might be the...
I ended up sending mine in not having the flex-circuit strip. They fixed it for free and sent me a new one along with a case and a ColorChecker mini card. Better deal.
Print head is likely good, but it does sound like the dampers are sludged up. Might be able to backflush them from where they attach to the print head with some plastic tubing like the ones on the top of the print head, silicon hose from a hobby shop, and a syringe.
For parts...
I'm unclear as to what you did.
You said you did four cleaning cycles to refill. Did any of that hit the capping station and make its way to the maintenance tank?
Did you unplug the two cables to the printhead or not? One may not be fully seated if you pulled them off. I use DeOoxit Gold...
ISF, that sounds plausible. The vinyl (PVC?) is very thin so it might be it has no barrier for the adhesive solvent and maybe that affected the surface receptor layer over time. Need to go find some more, maybe an artist's shop as the sign shop stuff is too expensive and only comes in large...
ISF, it was from a sign shop who used pigment inks on it, and it did work a year ago when I used it too. This stuff must change over time, and maybe the plastics in it alter so it will not accept the ink.
That's why I asked if it anyone knows if vinyl has an expiration date (They cut it from...
I bought a roll of adhesive=backed white vinyl from a sign shop. 48" wide and not cheap!
A year ago I printed on it fine with pigment ink. Yesterday, I tried a small piece and the ink refuses to dry on it even overnight. Still wet this AM and I can wipe it off with my finger.
I also tried...
This sounds like what I went through here: https://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/how-to-go-about-flushing-all-ink-out-of-a-3880.12502/
Mine is working fine since then (Whew!).
I think it took about 3 power cleanings to flush the line along with the nozzle checks, and I let it sit for a few...
Saw on Luminous Landscape site from a reseller: https://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?topic=126971.msg1071040#new
Seems to affect the older models more with a 10% hike, and 5% in new models with regards to ink. So 80ml of 3880 ink might be around $68/cart, or $3,217/gallon. Seems...
The large black plastic one that covers up the rear of the whole printer. Goes around the power cord outlet. All the screws are #2 Phillips.
No guarantee you can get deeper into it once that entire back panel is off, but it's an easy-off type of panel to see what is in there.

Interesting.
You might be able to pull it out if you take off the black plastic back cover. Can't recall what was under there as it's been a while, but that part is easy to get off with maybe 5 screws (One in the middle was different as I recall.).

Bad luck!
You might be right that the stiff paper jammed one of those presser feet and the head pushed the paper into it and broke a hinge or dowel pin. Plastic bits in the thing ain't a good sign, nor are loose springs. I fed some stiff stuff once before the plastic printer carriage broke...
I played around a bit with the newer xrite i1Studio software and its new B&W profiling. Took three test pages just for B&W now, but it seemed to do a lot better in producing a neutral B&W image with the 3rd page being mostly B&W test patches and some rows with color added to null out any tint...
ISF, I think I might try the Precision Colors HDR Black next. Wonder if it is the same as the Cone HD Photo Black that they recently came out with - although I think it is pigment.
Fwiw, I have a lot of old QTR K7 era profiles that I could flush out. That was a huge waste of time and money...
LOL!!
I've been complaining to ColorThink about adding a scroll bar to their profile searching window as it takes me a couple of minutes to get to whatever ICC I'm looking for. They are working on it for a future edition as it surprised them too, but told me to make some other folder...
ISF, I figured the BCH Premium Dye would fade, probably on line with the Cone dye I tried once but it was gone in 3-4 days. I haven't tried a fade yet with the BCH as I've been using a lot of it.
What is interesting is my blacks are pretty black though, and even blacker than the Epson pigment...
Fwiw, (And my online memo.) this was my mix of the BCH Premium Dye ink for the 3880:
PK Black = Full Strength BCH Technologies Black Premium Dye
Light Black (LK) = 50ml Clear Dye + 7ml Black Premium Dye
Light Light Black (LLK) = 50ml Clear Dye + 3ml Black Premium Dye
Magenta = Full Strength...
I had a look at the 3D in Colorthink Pro 3 of the Epson pigment and the BCH dye ink.
The place where the BCH gains is in the reds and yellows, but the Epson pigment does better with the cyan and blues shown below.
The wire-frame is the Epson pigment ink, and the solid is the BCH dye ink...
