I never disputed the function of the chip. I was aware of the function of the prism.
However, I don't see the relevance of your remarks regarding the original thread, because you ignore the fact that my ip4200 does not respond in the regular way when confronted with a refilled cartridge...

You missed the point. The normal behavior is that the printer nags about a refilled cartridge, resumes printing after 5 sec pressing the resume button and turning off the cartridge LED, etc.
In this case it does not detect a refilled cartridge, althoug it really was.
