First, I don't know of any independent printer manufacturer that can come up to the quality of the big companies.
Just what you are looking for from an independent manufacturer? Knowing that might help someone come up with a suggestion.
Tin Ho, I have to agree with you on that point.
I did not know what I was experiencing at first, so didn't start right away on the print head. Next time I will check that a lot sooner. I did not print anything other than the simple Nozzle Check between cleaning cycles because I feared doing...
For quite a while I have been running a Canon iP4200 with my home built constant ink-level CIS. See: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=2498 Finally, I have experienced a problem with one color. The cyan started to get a scattered weakness in the Nozzle Check Print. I would...
Hello Smile,
This is not about using a mylar bag, but it is about using springs. I built a system that uses springs supporting ink bottles to hold the ink level constant at the right height for a CIS on a Pixma printer.
Read about it on the thread...
Avolanche,
NO ! The chip on the cartridge is set for the color it goes with. You cannot use the cart in another color's slot.
Better get some more carts of whatever colors you are short.
A bit more info for you.
Your OEM carts may start to get sort of balky after 5 or more refills. If you detect that the ink is not flowing too well, you may need to purge the carts. This means flushing them completely with warm water, drying them, and then refilling.
Take a look at this...
Buzzly,
Your new MP970 does use the chipped carts CLI-8 and PGI-5. The MP970 will not run without chips. If you replace the carts with cheap non-OEM carts, you will have to remove the chips from your OEM carts and put them on the non-OEM carts.
Your OEM carts without chips are not really...

With Canon Pixma printers, the chip does not have to be reset, but if it is not, your choice is to continue using the cartridge and chip by following the printer's demand that you know that your warrantee is perhaps void and that you will not get ink level monitoring on your computer. When the...
Sirman,
I think that I understand what you are aiming for. I could be wrong.
If you think that the actual amount of ink in a Canon CLI-8 cartridge is being measured and reported by the cartridge chip, you have the wrong information.
The chip on the cartridge only stores information that...
If a tank is just empty, the printer should say so and ask if you want to keep printing. Since you did not say that it did that, but reported that the printer can not recognize some cartridges, you may have a chip not working or not making good contact. Check the chips carefully to make sure...
Pnx14,
How careful were you to put the correct chip on the cartridges?
The chips are assigned to a specific color cartridge and if you mix them up, the printer will complain and refuse to print. Mixed up chips may be why it doesn't recognize some cartridges.
Please give us more details about just what you did to open a hole to refill through and how you seal that hole after you put in the ink.
Your streaks when printing and the wrong colors can indicate excess ink going to the printhead, and it may be that you have an air leak where you seal the...
Lin,
You should be measuring the viscosity of the ink, not just rubbing it between your fingers.
Anyone can do a comparative measurement of viscosity. What I mean by comparative is that you don't have to have a standard calibrated piece of expensive equipment. You can compare the viscosity of...
Mikehoch,
You may have to do a bit of searching for the particular cable you need. It is a pretty good assumption that what you want might be called "flexible film cable" and you won't know just what type you will need until you open up the printer you are going to work with. Mouser...
I guess your rubber plug is working, but I do have a question about the removal of the original ball that sealed the hole. How did you remove it? Did you pull it out or punch it in? If you punched it in, did it go cleanly, or did it take a bit of the plastic surrounding the ball with it? I'm...
I presume you must be printing with the PGI-5 pigment black ink.
How many times have you refilled the black cartridge?
What seal method are you using to close the ink fill hole?
When you have refilled the cartridge and sealed the fill hole, how much ink drips out of the exit port before it...
