Other Things To Refill - SodaStream Canister With Dry Ice

My GF is a big fan of drinking soda water. She's been using a soda stream to make fizzy water from home. Definitely a lot cheaper than buying it from the store.

The sodastream company partners with a bunch of retail stores to do co2 cartridge exchanges... usually around $15. You can also do it online for around $20.

I knew there were all kinds of hacks for attaching larger CO2 bottles, etc., but one idea I stumbled on was refilling the cartridges / tanks / canisters with dry ice!

I watched a few videos, gave it a try, and it worked PERFECTLY! So, for $3, we refilled a tank super easily!

Is carbonated water that expensive in California, I can buy a 2 litre bottle for €1-09 here, so there is no need for a soda stream any longer..

Dry ice is sure nasty stuff to handle, but I do love this guy in the video using both imperial and metric spanners…!

Everything is expensive in California. Things that used to be free like going to the beach will now get you arrested.

Don't know how much the Soda Stream saves in money but you can re-use your containers instead of throwing them away. Who doesn't like being able to easily re-use or recycle, especially on printer refill forum???

Looking at other You Tubes, you can buy an adapter to use on readily available canisters that can be refilled by stores that sell paint ball supplies, so no need to handle dry ice.

My concern is being sure that however you refill a CO2 bottle that the procedure and supplies be safe and sanitary for consumption.

Right now the $ and euro are pretty close, so that's about $0.50 per liter (litre) out there. Out here, the cheapest I could find was about $0.81 per liter



The canisters say the CO2 will do about 60 liters each, but with the level of carbonation she wants, it's more like 30.

I'm refilling it for about $2.50 of dry ice, so that's about $0.8 per refill (without the cost of the water or depreciating the cost of the machine).

She drinks about 1.5 liters a day, so that's a savings of about $32.85 per month.

.... but for me it's more about the convenience of not having to go to the store, load a ton of bottles, waste bottles, etc.

I might do the large refillable 5 or 10 lb. bottle of CO2 in the future, but dry ice doesn't concern me at all (as far as safety since I handle it with respect), and it's food grade from the store. I've actually heard that the CO2 from paintball places is not food-grade and shouldn't be used.
