been hearing a lot of how canon's quality has degraded over the past few years, looking to quantify that with some numbers.

my printing experience is limited to 5+ year old MP830s. but thought that i'd share my "pages printed" numbers here and hope other will share their numbers to compare and contrast.

#1 MP830:
- 12/2007 - new MP830, new print head
- 04/2010 - replaced print head after 20,000 pages printed
- 06/2010 - logic board died after 22,500 pages printed, salvaged print head and ink carts

#2 MP830:
- 06/2010 - new MP830, swapped over print head and ink carts
- 02/2012 - replaced print head after 20,000 pages printed
- 03/2013 - replaced waste pads and cleaned print head when it hit 95% usage, 37,500 pages printed - pics at http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=8546
- 07/2013 - still printing at 41,000 pages

according to the MP830 service manual, it has a product life max of 5 years or a max of 19,000 pages printed, so at 41,000 pages i may be on borrowed time.

i do take my 5+ year old canon printer for granted, i just load paper and refill in a few min. they keep going and going.

FYI, been refilling for 5+ years, german method w squeeze bottles, now at over 490 refills. will share those numbers too once i hit 500 refills if interested.

any other numbers ?

J

Looks like 20,000 pages ties up with Canon's estimate. But I would have thought pages printed was more relevant than age, although it may be that support will not be available after 5 years.

Your heavy usage and no of refills relatively troublefree is very impressive.

My experience with the later MP620 is not so happy, particularly with magenta and German method. May try an Epson next time my old Stylus 880 I gave away years ago is still going with a friend. True very light use
